Our Mission
We are on a mission to unite leaders from business, government, the military, non-profits, and academia to develop a higher education strategy that strengthens the global competitive position of the United States.
At critical junctures in our history, higher education has been the key to our national prosperity and security. As the world transitions to an economy led by technological innovation and global interconnectivity, other countries have begun to embrace higher education as a strategic national asset, while the U.S. is falling behind.
The Council on Higher Education as a Strategic Asset (HESA) is a multi-sector coalition focused on ensuring America’s global competitive position by proposing new models for higher education policy, funding, and collaboration to develop the human capital required to support our national interests at speed and scale. Working with our nation’s leaders, HESA’s goal is to maximize the impact of higher education on global competitiveness, national security, democratic strength, and economic prosperity.
HESA was inspired by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB), which has focused on strengthening and empowering higher education governing boards worldwide for over 100 years.
A Strategic Approach to Generate Results
With a multi-phased approach to mobilization and action, HESA is focused on developing a national higher education strategy framework and identifying new approaches to policy, funding, and collaboration to address our most pressing national talent and workforce priorities. The recommendations will be provided to the President of the United States and targeted members of the administration, select members of the U.S. Congress, state governors and legislators, and higher education governing boards and chief executive officers.
